Production deployment and how to measure useful robot work.
Following a programmed welding path is not enough when workpieces vary. On October 28, Yaskawa Electric and Toyota's GAZOO Racing reported that an AI-assisted MOTOMAN NEXT system had entered production in September at a GR KART frame workshop in Gamagori, Japan. The announcement describes a working manufacturing process, not merely a laboratory demonstration.
A robot buyer needs useful output, not an impressive shipment count. At its October 29 event in Shanghai, AGIBOT introduced Worken, a proposed concept combining the words 'work' and 'token'. It aims to measure productive autonomous robot activity. The proposal has not become an independently established industry standard.
On October 28 Yaskawa reported that a MOTOMAN NEXT system began operating in September at a GR KART frame workshop, combining welding, inspection and correction.
